Hi again,
Well I’ve got 14 days to go before we can finally get the ball rolling!!!
After hearing that there were a few people looking for tips for before egg collection and after implantation, I decided to have a look around for you.
One tip I heard was that acupuncture can help with the folicules before egg collection. I currently go to Janine Nana at City Acupuncture here in Wellington. One thing I will say is, go to an acupuncturists rather than a pshsio, you want someone who specialises in acupuncture…
“Acupuncture on the day of embryo transfer
These treatments are based on protocols used in clinical trials showing up to 65% increase in pregnancy rates.” “….found that acupuncture performed close to the time of embryo transfer improved chances of pregnancy.”
For those wanting tips about after implantation:
- Pineapple is thought to help with implantation of the embryo. This is likely due to the bromelain (a digestive enzyme) that is inherent in pineapples.
- Walnuts are also thought to help with implantion or an early pregnancy. This could be due to the Omega 3 content as well as it being a good source of B-vitamins.
- Yams are believed to be high in progesterone. Since an increase is essential for a healthy pregnancy. Those women who may be deficient in progestorone production may find it helpful to eat yams (during the first trimester.)
Now these are just tips, they have not been confirmed or anything like that but hey, everything helps right??
Wishing you all the best!
Hugs,
Paula

Hi Paula,
You are so cute! Thanks for the helpful information on things that can help implantation – I have to say that I will prob try them all – as well as lying very still in my bed for a few days..one of my mum’s, friend’s, daughters (sorry! but don’t you always hear these stories about someone who knew someone who went through IVF) sat in bed on her third cycle with a bed pan and wouldn’t move:)
I totally know what you mean about just wanting to get underway. That’s how I felt about the pill. It finally felt like I was taking back control and that we were finally getting somewhere (esp after waiting 4 months to start!) I was scared about the injections until we went and picked them up. They give you a wine cooler sized bag filled with them (ah wine, my old friend). They show you how to do them on a piece of fake “skin” so I felt way more confident after that and the needles are tiny. The gonal F comes in a pen so that one looks easy, the other one you have to mix together some powder and liquid so its a bit more complicated, but the actual needles arn’t that bad – I am sure we will both be pros by the end of it!!! BRING ON WEDNESDAY!
One thing I did find on the pill (and everyone is different) is that it gave me MEAN headaches. I just made sure I had panadol and water on hand.
Thank you for being such a good listener. I, like you, find it so great knowing that I am not alone and that there are other brave women out there going through the same thing!
I will try and post something on the forum when I get some confidence (I’m not great at things like that!!!!!) but in the meantime I will be lurking in the background.
As for the IVF DVD we didnt get given it until we picked up the “wine cooler”. To be honest I am a bit scared to watch it. Maybe I will watch it and fast forward the egg collection bit?? That’s the only bit that I am still terrified of!!! But like you said, it’s worth it for starting our family – I think I might make that my new mantra!
My dh (as do I) thinks that your outlook is great and is really glad that I have found someone who “gets it”!!!!!!!
Best of luck to you, I will be counting down for you – 13 days!!!!! and best of luck to your sister!!!

Opps – forgot one more thing – I was doing accupunture for about 6 months before we found out we needed to do IVF to get my hormones balanced etc and find out why we were not having a baby. I left it when we found out about IVF, but I am pretty sure I will do it on the day of egg replacement.
I have been seeing a kinesthologist (sp) in Auckland. They work on getting your bodies signals working and found that mine weren’t with regard to fertility. He worked on getting my follicles the best they could be for starting IVF, but kind of annoyed me because everytime I went in he would ask if I was pregnant and kept saying, “well you should be by now” – I think he missed the vital point that it’s DH sperm that arn’t the best!!!! Maybe he should have been treating him?????!!!! ha ha
